People would always have the tendency to pull others down when others are on their way to the top. This is actually called crab mentality or in Australia tall poppy syndrome. Nobody wants others to be ahead of them. Instead, they should find their way ahead at all times. In golf, the same still applies. When you have already established yourself in the world of golf, there would really be some people who will find ways for you to be out of the scene. It is fine if these are detractors whom you never knew from the start.

Things would just be painful when you would know that your friends are the ones ruining your game. This is so sad to hear, but it does happen. Those people whom you never imagined to do such things to you are the ones who would actually do it first. However, when your friends are the ones ruining your game, try to determine first their reason for doing it. From there, you would have the idea as to how you are going to react and what you will be doing next. In this article, you will know the reasons why your friends would try to ruin your game. There might be several reasons but at the end of the day, it would boil down to this two.

1.    You might have friends who also want to be where you are. In life, you would only strive for success. When you know where you want to see yourself in the future, then you will definitely make moves just to be where you want to be someday. Yet, you tend to be unmindful that your friends do have the same desire as you. If you chose to take the same road, then things would be fine. However, when you are already way ahead, this is where problems arise. These people would destroy your game so that they would be taking your place. The problem is that you know not when to attack and how they would be doing it. Yet, you don’t have to worry about this. The only thing that matters here is that you know your goal and you won’t allow distractions to hinder you. If you know what to do and you are motivated to achieve it, then you will certainly have it. No matter how they try to pull you down, you will always stay on track.

2.    Your friends might be doing the reverse psychology. Things would always come as a surprise to us. You don’t know when things happen as expected or the other way around. If you feel like your friends are ruining your game and you are really in doubt about what they are doing; then think other wise. They might want to help you with what they are doing. They want to pull you down to lift you up. They try to ruin your game for you to be more motivated to continue. They simply want you to learn things the hard way. This might sound weird, but this could possibly be their best way to help you. Thus, if in cases where you find them acting so odd, you might try to take a look at this reason. You would just be surprised that friends will always be friends in spite and despite of everything.

These two reasons might be opposing in nature. However, when instances where friends really pull you down happen; then you just have to learn how to examine them totally. At the end of the day, whatever their goals may be, at least you always cling to what is good and right.

Even in golf, you can still learn a lot of values.

So you may be wandering just what does the US Open Golf Tournament have to do with my game? Well if you want to play well in your own club competition it could have a lot to do with your success. When you go to the driving range to work on your swing and pound ball after ball it’s only one small part of practise. This is what is called the practise makes perfect method. But if you have played golf for any length of time you know that it simply isn’t the truth; practise doesn’t make perfect! Practice makes permanent. So really you should be practising what is essential for you to play at your best. Your mental game training requires the same attention .

In order to play well with the anxiety of pressure you need to practise under the same conditions. When the chips are down and you need to hit the shot of your life, the self imposed pressure felt increases 10 fold for most players . The trial by fire approach to improving your inner game of golf toughness and performing under pressure is a haphazard method. Yet this is all most people know.

They enter more competitions with the hopes that by being in more events they will acquire the mental game toughness and concentration skills to deal with the pressure. Unfortunately it just doesn’t work that way. So what do you think is the typical out come by following this method ? Most players don’t perform to their own abilities in the key moments when everything is on the line because they lack the mental game training.

Inevitably when they fail it’s chalked up to experience and they simply hope to be in a position to win again. This strategy , if you can call it one, is the “natural” way. Just get in contention enough times and you’re sure to win. This is a very hit and miss mental game strategy. Well this might be true, since a player will win eventually if they give themselves enough chances.

I want to submit to you that the more times you are in contention and don’t win that what you are doing is increasing the likelihood of losing again, not of making winning easier. What the problem is; it’s a lack of mental game preparedness . You have built a mindset of losing in your subconscious mind around not performing well under pressure. It will drive your behaviour (your thought processes and the swings you make under pressure ). You will without thinking duplicate the experience of losing that you are accustomed to.

It certainly is a hard pill to swallow but if you want real and lasting change then mental game training can save you months, and even years for some golfers, of pointless inner chaos around pressure, performance anxiety, competitive stress and its influence on your game . So what if you could replicate  the US Open championship pressure when you practise and then were able to take that mindset out to the course when you play?

What if your preparation included a mental game imagery process that mirrored any and every pressure filled setting you might face and incorporated it into your practice routine?   Do you think it would be safe to say that you are a few steps ahead of your competition? You most certainly would.

By using visualization and actually feeling with your mind’s eye you can invent the exact kind of pressure you would feel in competition. Your unconscious mind will absorb these sessions and add them to your mental game collection and integrate them into your golfing self image. They become real situations in your subconscious. With this methodology you are providing your mind and body with sensory specific information about what anxiety is to you and how to play when it’s present .

This is in fact preparing your mind and body to perform in a desire behaviour when the anxiety of tournament play is present. Practise your mental game by imagining you are in the US Open and at the range hitting balls. Try to make every shot count, give yourself only one chance to hit your desired target. Establish a scoring system to examine how well you do when practising this way. Increase the pressure by taking only one drive, then one iron, then a chip shot if you miss your target with your approach shot. Try to pay very close attention to how your perform when using this technique.

If you want to speed up your mental game progress and begin to perform well under pressure then it’s imperative you simulate pressure in your practice sessions . What other way is there to get ready to face the inevitable? Do you honestly want to rely on the time worn routine of entering more and more tournaments and matches just hoping to get use to the pressure? How much time money are you prepared to spend before you make the changes needed?

Take hold of your potential by developing a rock solid mental game. Your overall mindset on the course, your mental game toughness, your sense of clarity and inner confidence under the gun, and a list of other benefits will enter your game. Not just occasionally but for a lifetime. You will be absolutely amazed at how all the little distractions and rubs of the green that used to get under your skin and derail you don’t even enter your mind anymore.
